Nesting has started!! The picture here is the very first one captured by our
system. This week there was a substantial increase in visits to the box
with lots of pecking on the floor, in the corners and below the entrance.
|
| Mar 9th |
Briefly caught the two of them together in the box today. Notice that they both
seem a lot smaller when together. There is not a lot more nesting material
appearing yet but we have observed that what there is gets moved around a lot.

Nesting activity has been increasing steadily during the past week. We think that
Mr Blue is doing most of the work.
|
| Mar 21st |
Today I was slightly worried when a bumble bee visited.
|
| Mar 23rd |
Nesting activity is becoming frenetic. Mrs Blue also put in an appearance.
Apologies if the little movie clips don't properly work on your browser.
|
| Mar 29th |
Suspected that the box was being roosted in at night as there were pictures captured
at very early light.
Confirmed this using a torch after dark.

| Mar 30th |
I think most of the nesting material is now in place. Activity now is
sitting
burrowing
adjusting
There is also a lot of looking out of the entrance hole, as you will
probably be aware of from the Recent Pictures page. Is it Mr Blue calling
to Mrs Blue to come in and get down to Egg Making Business?
How long before the first egg appears?

I could not resist this picture of the pair of them all snuggled up in the
box today. I think they just look so sweet, don't you?
|
| Apr 7th |
Nest building continues. Soft fluffy stuff is appearing
including what looks like some of my own
hair!! I had a trim a while ago and tucked the cuttings into a little net
bag which I hung near the nest box.
I wonder if the feathers are plucked from the birds themselves?

Egg making business in progress?
|
| April 14th |
The nest is getting bigger and work continues to make it softer and fluffier.
Its shape is becoming nestier!
|
| April 15th |
She is singing from the nest...
|
| April 21st |
Time goes on and still no eggs. In fact I am beginning to think we have
something of a Bridget Jones situation here. There
have been no pictures of both of them for about a week now. Yet Mrs. Blue
devotedly continues feathering the nest and then snuggles down at night on
her own....
